Unpacked: Samsung shows TV line-up for 2022: Neo QLED 8K, Smart Hub and more

In an “Unpacked” event, Samsung presented its new TV models for 2022. Also included: The “Neo QLED 8K” with a powerful Quantum processor.

The new TV models that Samsung has now presented in an “Unpacked” event are intended to improve the entertainment experience even further. For the new flagship series “Neo QLED 8K” the color and contrast were further improved – for a deceptively lifelike picture. Excellent 8K quality is made possible not least thanks to the “Neural Quantum Processor 8K” with artificial intelligence.

Cross-device

TVs have a central place in Samsung’s technological ecosystem, which includes not only smartphones or notebooks, but also kitchen appliances, headphones and much more. However, there is a special connection between the “Samsung Galaxy S22” and the “Neo QLED 8K”: The smartphone can be easily connected to the television in order to marvel at mobile phone videos – which were recorded in 8K – on the TV set. In general, the new “Neo QLED 8K” series opens up completely new possibilities for using the television in everyday life: as a training aid during a workout (together with the “Galaxy S22”) or for video calls with friends and colleagues.

Technology check

The heart of Samsung’s new Neo QLED TV is the Neural Quantum Processor 8K, which consists of 20 independent neural AI networks. Each of them analyzes the properties of the image content and ensures the best image quality. At the same time, the “Real Depth Enhancer” examines the image. This feature creates more depth by emphasizing objects against the unprocessed background – much like the human eye, which focuses on objects and seems to detach from the background. “Shape Adaptive Light Control” ensures strong contrasts, i.e. light-dark areas are optimally delimited. In addition, the new QLED line-up can reproduce all colors and skin tones of the Pantone color system – which has been rewarded with a “Pantone Validated” certification.

Dolby Atmos on board

The new “Neural Quantum Processor 8K” processor also ensures optimal sound for the television experience. Each image is analyzed and the sound follows – thanks to the “Adaptive Sound” feature – the movements on the screen. The flagship model, the “QN900B”, shines with a particularly authentic soundscape, which is equipped with a 90-watt 6.2.4-channel audio system with top-channel speakers and Dolby Atmos with object-tracking Sound Pro. Wireless Dolby Atmos ensures that no more unsightly cables have to be laid between the TV and the soundbar.

New “Smart Hub”

The Entertainment Hub has also undergone a makeover and is broken down into three key areas:

Ambient: Here the display is adapted to the living environment with colors and patterns. Works of art can be displayed as eye-catchers.
Gaming: This is where hardware is combined with software. Samsung has also announced partnerships with major game streaming services.
Media: All video-on-demand and streaming services find a common place here.
New: The new TV models offer access to Samsung NFT platform where users can collect and present digital art. NFT (Non Fungible Token) is a digital asset that – like a certificate, for example – regulates the ownership or use of a real or digital object.

Sustainability in focus

Samsung also has the environment in mind with its new eco-system: Up to 90% less ink is used in the packaging of the devices and staples are dispensed with. The “SolarCell” remote control does not require any batteries at all and is 88% more efficient than its predecessors. Recycled resin, some of which was salvaged from the sea in coastal areas, was used in the new TVs, monitors and displays. In addition, the “Neo QLED 8K” televisions receive the Carbon Trust “Reducing CO2” label.
