It shows the cities with the most hours of sunshine in Europe.

Using data from World Weather Online, Holidu has calculated the average number of hours of sunshine per month in the 300 most populous cities in Europe. The years 2009 to 2021 were used as the determination period. Unsurprisingly, the sunniest cities are all in southern Europe, most in Spain and Italy.

And one city outperforms all others when it comes to the number of hours of sunshine: Alicante on the Costa Blanca in south-eastern Spain. According to the analysis, the sun shines an average of 349 hours per month in the port city. This means that Alicante has two more hours of sunshine than the second-placed city in the ranking: Catania on the Italian island of Sicily. Third place with an average of 346 hours of sunshine goes to the Spanish city of Murcia.

In general, Spain is represented above average in the European ranking of cities with the most hours of sunshine. There are 12 Spanish cities in the top 30. Italy follows with eleven cities, France with three.
