The state in the Sahara reflects everything that one imagines from the African desert areas: oriental-looking cities made of white stone, spacious, deserted steppes and palm-studded oases. Let’s come to the 9th largest country in the world. Located between the Caspian Sea to the west and the Altai Mountains to the east, Kazakhstan is shaped by the numerous cultures and peoples who have settled here over the centuries. Ancient petroglyphs (rock paintings) can be viewed at sites such as the World Heritage site of Tamgaly, while the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkestan is dedicated to the Islamic mystic of the same name. In idyllic places like the national park near Qarqaraly or Kaindysees you can relax in the untouched nature and enjoy the sight of the diverse fauna and flora. The capital Astana, on the other hand, offers imposing and futuristic-looking buildings that are waiting to be discovered.
