Intel Arc: The first notebook GPUs have started
The starting signal for the first GPUs from Intel Arc Alchemist has been given. The notebook GPUs A350M and A370M, which are in the entry-level category, appear at the beginning. There are now also technical details for the more powerful models.
After Intel announced the Arc graphics card family in August 2021, the company has now announced the launch of two notebook GPUs. In the notebook segment, the Alchemist generation consists of the A350M, A370M (entry level), A550M (middle class), A730M and A770M (upper class). The entry-level models will start with the rest of the GPUs to follow in the summer.
A350M and A370M are based on the six-nanometer graphics chip ACM-G11 and offer six or eight Xe cores, i.e. 96 execution units in the case of the A350M and 128 in the case of the A370M. The GPU clock is specified as 1,150 or 1,550 megahertz. There are also four gigabytes of GDDR6 memory with a 128-bit interface. According to Intel, the power consumption of the weakest model is 25 to 35 watts, while the A370M can manage between 35 and 50 watts. You can see the technical key data of the stronger GPUs in the picture, but no further details on their performance are known so far.
No comparison to the competition
In performance charts, the company only compares the first two Arc GPUs with a current iGPU (Xe-LP). The A370M should be able to display well-known games with an average of over 60 frames per second in Full HD with medium to high details. Less demanding titles like Fortnite or GTA V (medium details) are even more than 90 frames per second, as long as the GPU is paired with a Core i7-12700H, as in the Intel tests. The first notebooks with Arc appear, for example, from Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI and Samsung.
The company provides the Arc Control application for driver updates and setting options. Xe SS should also be unlocked through updates in the summer, which even support the entry-level models. This is Intel’s supersampling alternative to Nvidia DLSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution. Initially, Xe SS will be available in Death Stranding, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Hitman III, among others.
In the summer, the company also wants to launch the Arc desktop graphics cards. Instead of technical details, there was only a short teaser for the current launch that shows the design of the presumed top model. Intel speaks of a limited edition, but what it is all about is still unclear.
