Instructions: How to add a new contact on WhatsApp

It’s easy to save new contacts on WhatsApp. How this works exactly, we explain step by step in our instructions.

The following scenario: You meet someone new, an acquaintance gets a new phone number or a family member gets a new mobile phone contract – and suddenly a new number has to be saved. This is especially necessary if you want to continue chatting together on WhatsApp.

There are two very simple ways to add a new contact to WhatsApp. In our instructions we explain the procedure step by step so that you can continue chatting with your loved ones.

Add contact directly via WhatsApp
Open whatsapp.
Click New Chat (pen icon, top right) > Options > Add New Contact (Android) or New Chat (pen icon, top right) > New Contact (iPhone).
Enter the name and number of the contact and press “Save”.
The contact now automatically appears in the contact list.
If the contact does not appear immediately: Tap on “New chat” > “Options” > “Reload contacts”.

Add contact via address book

Open the contacts or the address book of the smartphone.
Tap on “New contact”, “New” or “+” (depending on the smartphone type).
Enter the name and number of the contact and press “Save”.
The contact automatically appears in the WhatsApp contact list.
If the contact does not appear there immediately: Tap on “New chat” > “Options” > “Reload contacts”.

By the way: Contacts can be added via WhatsApp, but not deleted via WhatsApp. If you want to remove a contact, you have to do this in the contacts or the address book.
