New VW Amarok coming at the end of 2022
The biggest VW novelty of the year is taking shape: the Amarok will be back at the end of 2022. The design of the huge pick-up is even more angular, the interior is finer than before.
VW is preparing the second edition of the Amarok. After twelve years and more than 800,000 units, the Lower Saxony wants to present the next generation of the pick-up this summer and start selling it at the end of the year. The manufacturer announced this, but did not name any prices yet.
The new Amarok is a cooperation with Ford
While the first Amarok was an in-house development, this time VW has teamed up with Ford. According to the commercial vehicle department in Hanover, the Ford Ranger serves as the basis. However, the VW has its own design and also goes its own way in the interior.
While that’s yet to be seen under the camouflage, the developers are talking about shared technology from the US. So there will be the Amarok like the Ranger with a ten-speed automatic and as a rear-wheel drive or with two different all-wheel drives.
The engines also come from Ford. There is a choice of a V6 diesel with three liters of displacement, which delivers 184 kW/250 hp in the Ranger, and four four-cylinder engines, which VW has not yet specified in more detail.
More space and better usability
With the new partner, the Amarok also gets a new platform and is noticeably larger. For example, VW is promising ten centimeters more length and 18 centimeters more wheelbase at a good 5.30 meters in the future. This should primarily benefit the backbenchers in the standard double cabin. Because the overhangs are shorter at the same time, the Amarok is also better to use off-road.
