Malfunction: This Android app is draining the battery

Has the smartphone battery been draining unusually quickly in the last few days? A malfunction in an Android app could be the cause. That’s behind it.

Numerous Android users have noticed in the last few days that their smartphone battery drains much faster. However, they could not discover a reason for this. Now it is clear: A malfunction in an app could be responsible for the drained battery.

Because: A bug in “Google Messages” can lead to the app using the battery excessively, heating it up and draining it within a short time.

Always-on camera

The reason: due to an error, the camera was kept permanently active in the background. As with other apps, you can also send pictures with Google Messages and snap them directly via the app – but the camera should then be deactivated again. This was not the case due to a bug, which led to the massive battery consumption.

The problem can currently be solved in two ways:

You close the app manually, which also turns off the always-on camera. To close an app, you have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Then press and hold the screen until the active apps are displayed. Now select Google Messages and wipe the app up. This will close the app.

Camera access permissions are revoked from the app. This works via the system settings: Here you open the “Apps” tab, select Google Messages and click on “Permissions”. Below this, the access of the app to the camera can be deactivated.

Google has already confirmed the problem and is already working on a bug fix. The bug has already been fixed in a new beta version. However, it is not yet clear when this update will be installed on the devices. Experience has shown that this shouldn’t take too long.
